The nod to Jay-Z and Kanye West\u2019s \u201cWatch the Throne\u201d album featured five tracks you can still listen to on Soundcloud. The mixtape made a sizeable splash upon its debut. At least three tracks have been played more than 1 million times. We even landed an interview with Lefty himself to get the mascot\u2019s take on what inspired him to drop a mixtape and <a href=\"https:\/\/popicon.life\/lasagna-mixtapes-kanye-west-conversation-hamburger-helpers-lefty\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">whether he has any beef with vegetarians<\/a>. Goofy? Yes. Hitting all the right viral buttons at the time? Also, yes. This marketing stunt hasn\u2019t aged the best, but nobody blames Lefty for that. The mascot was doing what characters do best. Lefty leaned all the way into the silliness of the concept and had fun with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The same can\u2019t be said for Colonel Sanders in KFC\u2019s first single \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=a_jTgglkgJ8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Finger Lickin\u2019 Machine<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/popicon.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/kfc_colonel_sanders_finger_lickin_machine.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Billed by KFC as a \u201creal single\u201d and not a catchy jingle, the music video slash 90 second commercial spot takes place in a KFC boardroom. Colonel Sanders pitches the KFC Box Feast meals to a group of shareholders. They&#8217;re outraged about being encouraged to sell value meals to consumers and demand to know who the Colonel thinks he is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Uh, the company mascot? A bigger icon than any stiff shirt in this room can ever hope to be?<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Colonel responds by saying, \u201cI\u2019m a finger lickin\u2019 machine.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He leaps on top of the boardroom table and starts dancing. As the lyrics oscillate between \u201cfinger lickin\u2019 machine\u201d and the chorus chants \u201cfried, fried, fried,\u201d the Colonel shoves a chicken sandwich into an executive\u2019s mouth to quiet his complaints and heads out into the night with a box of chicken. The Colonel passes out pieces of chicken to random strangers on the street and dances his way up the side of a hi-rise building. Up on the roof, he does a few backflips before flinging himself off the roof as \u201cdo not attempt\u201d warnings in tiny type flash on the screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s like watching a far less impressive version of Fatboy Slim\u2019s \u201cWeapon of Choice\u201d music video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/popicon.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/kfc_colonel_sanders_finger_lickin_machine_2-scaled.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWatch the Stove\u201d might have dropped during peak millennial optimism era, but at least it was of its time. \u201cFinger Lickin\u2019 Machine\u201d feels like it came out at least a decade ago. I <em>don\u2019t <\/em>like the title (yeah, it\u2019s a nod to the KFC slogan but it doesn\u2019t sound\u2026 right) or the lack of clever lyrics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking of the lyrics, what is this song even about? KFC said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/kfc-drops-their-first-single-finger-lickin-machine-302734839.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">press release<\/a> listening to \u201cFinger Lickin\u2019 Machine\u201d is supposed to evoke the feeling of getting more food than you expected after you order a new Box Feast. Ah yes, that great moment where we\u2019re all excitedly shouting out \u201cFINGER LICKIN\u2019 MACHINE!!\u201d instead of \u201cyes!\u201d or \u201cawesome!\u201d when there\u2019s an extra piece of chicken in the bag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before I sign off, I have a few liner notes should KFC decide to drop another single.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Besides Hamburger Helper, another good example of brand mascots who briefly dabbled in music are <a href=\"https:\/\/popicon.life\/rice-krispies-snap-crackle-pop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Snap, Crackle and Pop<\/a>. The Rice Krispies trio starred in \u201cVibin\u2019\u201d a 2020 commercial spot where the cereal brand smartly turned its mascots into a band and made their product, cereal that naturally talks once hit with milk, sing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There could be aspects to these mascots in music success stories for KFC to take notes from. Maybe the next single re-introduces listeners to Value Meal pricing for every budget? Or it samples the scene in <em>South Park<\/em> where Eric Cartman eats all the skin off the KFC chicken?<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What if the Colonel sings or at least contributes a verse or two?
