Maybe you have a vague memory he used to go by Sunny the Smilin Sun. Or chances are pretty good you might not have known this mascot had a name at all but were familiar with his grinning face pictured on boxes of Raisin Bran cereal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/popicon.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/RaisinBran_Sunny_History1-002.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19397\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2023 marks the debut of a brand-new Sunny design featured on Raisin Bran. To celebrate, we thought we would take readers on a trip down memory lane of Sunny\u2019s many iterations. From the appearance of his rosy cheeks to the moment he went from 2D to 3D, here\u2019s a look back at the design evolution of Sunny, Raisin Bran\u2019s mascot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-1960s-introduction-of-sunny-the-smilin-sun\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1960s: Introduction of Sunny the Smilin Sun<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sunny the Smilin Sun first made his appearance in commercials and on packages of Raisin Bran cereal in 1965. However, this appearance came well after the creation of Raisin Bran. Kellogg\u2019s Raisin Bran was created in 1942 and became known as Kellogg\u2019s first product with fruit in the box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/popicon.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/1968_Raisin-Bran-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19395\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sunny was created as part of a campaign to effectively use humor in TV commercials and print ads and distinguish Kellogg\u2019s product from other raisin brands. 1967 marked the first appearance of Sunny\u2019s \u201crosy\u201d cheeks. In the decades to come, he would also receive many different names. Sometimes you\u2019d see him advertised as Sunny the Smilin Sun. Other times he went by Raisin Bran Sun, Sun, and now, Sunny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-1970s-sunny-sings-about-two-scoops-of-raisins\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1970s: Sunny Sings About TWO SCOOPS of Raisins<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The arrival of the 1970s marked some subtle changes in Sunny. Most noticeable was Sunny showing off his wonderful voice through song.<\/p>\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Kelloggs Raisin Bran with Talking &quot;Sunny the Sun&quot; voiced by Daws Butler\" width=\"1240\" height=\"930\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IaJ-8qQ-RTk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Sunny often acted as a newscaster in Raisin Bran commercials. You could count on Sunny for \u201cthe scoop\u201d on the amount of raisins in every package of Raisin Bran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the 1970s, these songs started off as folk tunes. Sunny was shown in December 1971 with two scoops and his best-known advertising slogan \u201cthere\u2019s TWO SCOOPS of raisins in a package of Kellogg\u2019s Raisin Bran.\u201d By the 1980s, the songs into more pop and rock \u2018n roll jingles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sunny also began wearing sunglasses during this time, so if you remember Raisin Bran\u2019s Sunny in shades you\u2019re not part of some sort of mascot-based Mandela Effect. The mascot did indeed rock a pair of sunnies!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-1980s-sunny-goes-3d\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1980s: Sunny Goes 3D!<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/popicon.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/1980_Raisin-Bran.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19396\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1981, Sunny experienced one of his greatest style refreshes since his rosy cheek days. The mascot\u2019s appearance went from 2D to 3D.<\/p>\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Kellogg&amp;apos;s Raisin Bran Cereal Animated Commercial - 1982\" width=\"1240\" height=\"930\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1ocgoStQ_uU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sunny had a more expressive face which allowed him to show off his happy, friendly, and sunny (how can we not say it?) personality! He also used his rays to grab onto those two famous scoops of raisins. In 1982, it was revealed that all the raisins inside Kellogg\u2019s Raisin Bran come from \u201cRaisin Land.\u201d This was a special land where Sunny himself comes down from the sky to interact with grapes and turn them into raisins which are found in Raisin Bran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While Raisin Land is obviously not a real place, its charm resonated with Raisin Bran enthusiasts. In 1983, Kellogg\u2019s created an Adventures in Kellogg\u2019s Raisin Land game book thanks to its commercial popularity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-2023-and-beyond-meet-the-new-sunny\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2023 and Beyond: Meet the New Sunny!<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/popicon.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/RaisinBran_Sunny_History2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19399\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2023 marks the debut of the new Sunny.
