Launched in 1919 and currently produced by Procter &amp; Gamble, this pink liquid has spent nearly a century acting as a medicine cabinet staple that treats and provide relief for the five symptoms of overindulgence including nausea, heartburn, indigestion, upset stomach, and diarrhea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/popicon.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/pepto_bismol_new_formula.png\" alt=\"pepto_bismol_new_formula\" class=\"wp-image-9268\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.5824915824915824;width:940px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In celebration of the major milestone, Pepto-Bismol has released an updated formula. This new formula features Ultra Coat technology, described by the brand as a protective coating on the stomach lining that soothes irritation and calms down tummies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/youtu.be\/AoV1eyLy9Iw\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Outside of its reputation for #PinkRelief, Pepto-Bismol is also famously known for its 5-symptom jingle. A rebooted version of the iconic singalong has been rolled out to accompany its new formula with the promise that if you have \u201cnausea, heartburn, indigestion, upset stomach, and diarrhea\u201d Pepto-Bismol will treat your stomach right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But, I seem to recall that at one point Pepto-Bismol had its own brand mascot. Am I wrong about this?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/popicon.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/24_hour_bug_pepto_bismol.jpg\" alt=\"24_hour_bug_pepto_bismol\" class=\"wp-image-9266\" style=\"aspect-ratio:0.75;width:2448px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nope! The 24-Hour Bug, created in 1968, was one icky fellow. I normally don\u2019t put characters down like that, but he was made to be the epitome of bad germs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/youtu.be\/Oo1GJ-fIpDM\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A sickly green with a Grinch-esque sneer, the 24-Hour Bug made appearances throughout the 1960s and 1970s in commercial spots depicting just how miserable he could make us feel internally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/popicon.life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/pepto_bismol_1947_advertisement.png\" alt=\"pepto_bismol_1947_advertisement\" class=\"wp-image-9267\" style=\"aspect-ratio:0.7804054054054054;width:462px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was tough to make him go away, but luckily Pepto-Bismol came to the rescue with its coating action. This soothed nausea and upset in stomachs, until the 24-Hour Bug \u201cstops bugging you.\u201d This character definitely had a shorter lifespan than most brand mascots, but in this case I don\u2019t think anyone would object to the need to get rid of him.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Heather Taylor Happy 99th anniversary, Pepto-Bismol!
