Jim Henson’s Creature Shop is Bringing the Monster Cereals Mascots To Life as Puppets in Monstrous New Collaboration

By Heather Taylor, Editor-in-Chief, PopIcon

The beloved Monster Cereals mascots — the spooktacular trio of Count Chocula, Franken Berry and Boo Berry — have starred in a mockumentary, gone to Hollywood, debuted their first female mascot (Carmella Creeper) and brought Frute Brute out of retirement.

What will they do next in 2025? What if we told you these General Mills icons are partnering with The Jim Henson Company to celebrate the company’s 70th anniversary as cereal puppets?

So says the internet rumor mill, specifically the blog Muppet Stuff which leaked images and details of the upcoming partnership on July 18. And while you can’t always believe everything you read on the internet, this rule generally doesn’t apply when it comes to the Monsters. In the past 10 years I’ve been writing the PopIcon column (!), several Monster Cereals collabs started off as gossip-fueled announcements that took off on niche websites. None ever turned out to be false alarms either.

What can we expect from the Monsters as the felt puppet versions of themselves? According to Muppet Stuff, there will be a rollout of limited-edition cereal boxes starring each Monster (check out the sneak peek of Boo Berry!), in-store promotional items and online content on social media platforms.

Most importantly: we’re rumored to be getting the Monster puppets in their own commercials.

Watch this space for more information as the fall and Halloween season draws near. (Although if this partnership decided to drop now to celebrate Summerween we wouldn’t be mad about it.)
