Advertising Week Strikes New Partnership to Bring UK Excellence To New York

This year’s Advertising Week New York (October 7-10) marks the start of an extended partnership with the Advertising Association representing the UK creative industries.

UK Advertising is heading to Advertising Week New York, providing a unique opportunity to connect leaders from the world’s two largest advertising markets. This gathering not only celebrates the strength of global business but also emphasizes the critical role these markets play in shaping the future of advertising.

Julian Douglas, International CEO, VCCP and UKAEG Chair, says: “The US market is hugely important to the UK both culturally and commercially – it is worth more than £3.4bn in exports- this is one of the reasons we made New York VCCP’s second home. Between them, the UK and US are the world’s largest exporters of creativity which makes Advertising Week New York the perfect opportunity to get together, collaborate, innovate and drive further growth.”

In recent years, several UK companies, including UKAEG members Influencer, Propeller, VCCP and Coffee&TV, have expanded their global presence by opening offices in New York, underscoring the deepening collaboration between the UK and US markets. This expansion reflects the UK’s growing influence and commitment to fostering innovation in the global advertising landscape.

Aisling Conlon, International Trade Director for UK Advertising, Advertising Association, says: “As we prepare for our largest UK delegation to Advertising Week New York, we recognize that the US continues to be our top export market, importing over £3.4 billion in UK advertising annually. The narrowing gap between the two largest exporters—from $4.7 billion to $3 billion—underscores New York’s vital role as an advertising hub, alongside the UK.”

UK Advertising’s presence at Advertising Week NYC is led by the UK Advertising Export Group (UKAEG), supported by the Advertising Association (AA), the Advertising Producers Association (APA), the British Promotional Merchandise Association (BPMA), the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA), and the UK’s Department for Business and Trade. Recent figures released in June 2024 show UK advertising exports surged by 15% to £18bn in 2023.

Analysis by Credos, the UK’s advertising think tank, positions the UK as the second-largest global exporter of advertising, market research, and public opinion polling services.

Ruth Mortimer, Global President at Advertising Week, says: “The New York event is our original flagship – 20 years old – while our UK arm has operated for 10 years. But now, more than ever, the case to bring the creative and business communities together to learn from each other is more vital than ever. We’re excited to do more with UKAEG to help unite creative businesses around the globe.”

As part of Advertising Week, UK Advertising will host exclusive events, including the Leadership Reception at the British Residence of New York and a meet up on site at the event, fostering key connections and discussions that will drive future collaboration and growth in the industry.

Conlon says: “Together, our markets shape industry trends and foster innovation, shaping the future of our global industry. We are thrilled to partner with Advertising Week to host a special VIP reception at the Consulate for the inaugural Leadership Reception as we collectively work to bring the two biggest markets together.”
